Pinjore Garden Chandigarh: Information Guide

Festivals at Yadavindra GardensYadavindra Gardens of Pinjore is also known for hosting festivals like the Baisakhi festival in April and for the Mango Festival in June and July, where a large variety of mangoes are displayed. He was so enchanted with the beauty of the place that he thought of making a beautiful garden there and this is how the concept of the gardens came into being. At that time, the Nawab was the Governor of the Province and during one of his tours, he happened to visit the Pinjore valley. The second terrace with arched doorways has the "Rang Mahal" (painted palace).

Known for its stunning Mughal-style architecture, lush greenery, and serene atmosphere, the gardens offer a perfect getaway for tourists seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Yadavindra Gardens, Pinjore is one of the most beautiful and historic gardens in India, located in the town of Pinjore in the Panchkula district of Haryana, near Chandigarh. Additionally, the gardens house a mini zoo, a historic palace, a Japanese garden, a nursery, and a number of picnic spots, catering to a range of interests. Situated at the foothills of the Mount Shivalik, Yadavindra Gardens is a delightful garden built in 17th century. It is a 2 day winter season festival held every year in the last week of December promoting cultural heritage of the state with performances, dance and music performances, craft market and food court.

Once you reach the garden, you can explore it at your own pace and convenience, as there is no fixed itinerary or guide. From Chandigarh, you can take a bus, a taxi, or a car to the garden, as Yadavindra Gardens mentioned above. The nearest airport to the garden is Chandigarh, which is connected to Delhi, Mumbai, and other major cities by domestic flights. The toy train is a heritage train, that runs on a narrow gauge track, and offers a scenic and enjoyable ride through the hills and valleys.

Also, make sure to dispose of your waste properly, and do not litter or damage the garden. The garden also offers a light and sound show in the evening, which costs Rs. 50 per person, and Rs. 25 per child. The entry fee to the garden is Rs. 20 per person, and Rs. 10 per child.

  • Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb and his foster brother, Nawab Fidai Khan, who was a renowned architect during the era of the Emperor worked together to design the garden.
  • It is said that this garden was for Aurangzeb’s summer retreat and that he himself had quite an input on the design of the garden.
  • However, after the decline of the Mughal Empire, the garden was neglected and damaged by the invaders and the elements.
  • The garden uses natural resources such as rainwater, springs, and streams to irrigate the plants and operate the fountains.

These celebrations bring the garden to life with music, colors, food, and traditional charm, making it a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike. The palace also has a baradari (pavilion), with a dome and pillars, offering a panoramic view of the garden and the surrounding hills. The garden hosts various festivals throughout the year, such as Baisakhi, Mango Festival, Rose Festival, Heritage Festival, and Winter Festival. Pinjore Garden is more than just a tourist attraction; it is a cultural and historical landmark that offers a glimpse into India’s rich Mughal heritage.

Later during the Patiala dynasty rule, the garden was revived and reformed. The locals started believing that the water and air of Pinjore have got contaminated and they left the beautiful place to never come back. An interesting thing about the garden is that the garden was abandoned due to Goitre, a disease that is caused due to lack of Iodine intake.

FAIR AND FESTIVALS

Located near Chandigarh on the foothills of the Shivaliks, Pinjore Gardens, also known as Yadavindra Gardens, is one of North India’s most beautiful 17th-century Mughal gardens. The best time to explore the gardens is in the evening time. Pinjore Gardens are a good illustration of terrace gardens in India. Tourists from all over the world visit the Pinjore gardens to experience this Mughal creation that India has very proudly and carefully maintained. This includes time to explore the different sections of the garden, relax by the fountains, take photos, and enjoy a peaceful walk through the well-maintained pathways.

Renamed Yadavindra Gardens to honor Maharaja Yadavindra Singh of Patiala, this 17th century's marvel was originally commissioned by Nawab Fidai Khan, Emperor Aurangzeb's foster brother. There is no prior clarification of prices while taking the order, which leaves customers surprised at the billing counter.I strongly recommend visitors to ask for the price list before ordering anything. For reference, tea costs ₹90 and hot coffee costs ₹120.This pricing feels misleading, especially in a public tourist place where visitors naturally expect fair and transparent rates. The prices are not clearly visible, as the rate list is displayed on a small board placed high above the shops, which most visitors are likely to miss. There is no doubt that the garden itself is beautiful and well maintained. I visited Yadavindra Garden, Pinjore in January 2026.
